In fact, If you are visiting the capital, this is one of the best places to visit in Delhi. Humayun’s wife, Hamida Banu, or Hazi Begum, was the inspiration behind the construction of this magnificent tomb. It is said that the tomb took 14 years to construct and 2 years for the finishing touch.

Besides the main tomb enclosure of Humayun Tomb, several smaller monuments dot the pathway leading up to it, from the main entrance in the West, including one that even pre-dates the main tomb itself, by twenty years.

This was the first garden tomb in India and was a precursor to the magnificent Taj Mahal which was built by Humayun’s great-grandson Shah Jahan 60 years later in Agra.

It is also called as Mini taj as it was somewhat a similar design as the Taj Mahal because it was Shah Jahan’s great great grandfather who built this so this was the inspiration design of the Taj.

One of the important thing related to Humayun tomb is that it is the first building in this geography to use the Persian double dome designs, with tile work & carving embodying both Indian & Persian decorative elements.

The main building of the Humayun Tomb is simply big. Big enough for crowds to disappear. With dome-roofed building, It felt like going inside the sultan’s palace.

During that time, the Mughal emperors built the various monument in Delhi as they all want Delhi to be their capital and hence it results in vast monuments in Delhi like Lal Qila, Purana Qila etc.

Beleive me, If you are with the family you must have to visit Humayun Tomb and adore the beauty of the prehistoric and Mughal culture.
